1923 – 2003

LEWISTON – Gerald D. Kilgore Sr., 80, of Bearce Street, Auburn, died at Central Maine Medical Center Thursday, Nov. 20.

He was born in Norway, on Oct. 14, 1923, the son of Ralph and Minnie (Hill) Kilgore. He was educated locally and later joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II in New Guinea and the Phillipines.

Mr. Kilgore was employed for 45 years at Wilner Wood Products and retired as a maintenance foreman in 1985. On Oct. 6, 1973, he married the former Marilyn Newcombe and they spent the next 30 years together.

Mr. Kilgore enjoyed working with wood and built many bird feeders and lawn ornaments. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, and making apple pies to give away.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Auburn; his children, Gerald Jr. and wife Lorna of South Paris, Dennis and wife Jean of Palm Bay, Fla., Peter and wife Sharon of South Paris, Edward of South Paris, Albert and wife Judy of Nashua, N.H., Ronnie of South Paris, Sherri Estes and husband Randall of Oxford, Penny Allen and husband Charlie of South Paris, and Barry and his wife Tammy of South Paris; three stepchildren, Keith Sawyer and wife Barbara of Buxton, Thomas Sawyer and wife Maureen of Auburn, and Mark Sawyer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brothers, Gordon of Yarmouth, and Gaylen of Poland; sisters, Kathleen Kilgore of Auburn and Esther Mitchell of Yarmouth; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; one nephew; and three neices.

Mr. Kilgore was predeceased by his sister, Lillian Buehl.
