Dear Sun Spots: I have some questions for anyone that may be knowledgeable with some Auburn history.

I live in Auburn and am trying to find out information about my farm, Mount Apatite Farm on the Hatch Road. I have heard that when the end barn was built around the turn of the century it was the most modern of its time, so I thought something was probably written up about it. I don’t know the exact date so I don’t know how to go about searching.

I am also looking for information on Col. Nathaniel Hatch whom I believe was the original owner of the farm when it was built in 1878. I would also like to know of any early mining that was done here at the farm, and where the name may have come from, Mount Apatite Farm. Apatite is a Maine mineral. Also, was the Hatch Road named after the colonel?

I have already done some research at the library and historical society. I would appreciate any help. Please contact Cookin Carol at 795-6376 or e-mail at CookinCarol@maine.com. – Carol in Auburn.
