1923 – 2003

AUGUSTA – Marjorie A. Cottrell, 80, a former resident of Blue Road in Monmouth for 50 years and most recently a resident of Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell, died Sunday, Nov. 30, at Gray Birch Nursing Home in Augusta, following a long illness.

She was born in Detroit, Mich., on March 10, 1923, the daughter of Edwin and Ada Klump. She attended Ferris State University in Michigan. On Dec. 24, 1945, she married Henry L. Cottrell of Monmouth in New York City.

“Marge” served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II stationed in the Pacific.

She was a co-operative education teacher in Leavitt for six years and in Monmouth for 17 years, retiring in 1980.

She was a schoolboard member in Monmouth for nine years and served on the Appeals Board for the Town of Monmouth. She and her husband owned and operated the Mingo Springs Resort in Rangeley from 1950 to 1965. She was a member of the Lions Club, ZONTA Women’s Business Organization and volunteered at the Augusta Hospital and at the Cottrell School for 10 years. She enjoyed reading and her weekly poker games and looked forward to her trips to Nevada.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Stephen and Marsha Cottrell of Manchester; a daughter, Barbara Cottrell and her husband Lee Schepps of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Raegan Cottrell and Benjamin Schepps.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry L.; a daughter, Sandra; and two grandchildren, Ryan Cottrell and Phillip Schepps.
