AUBURN – Liquidators have taken over the Woodworkers Warehouse in Auburn.

The Massachusetts-based company, which sold woodworking tools and accessories, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Dec. 5. Since then, Great American Group liquidators has been brought in to oversee the dissolution of the inventory, including the store at 1120 Center St.

Woodworkers Warehouse operated about 100 stores nationally and competed with home improvement retailers such as Lowe’s and Home Depot. A federal bankruptcy court in Delaware ordered the liquidation sale last week. It also ordered that outstanding gift certificates and credit slips amounting to $680,000 be honored throughout the bankruptcy proceedings.

A clerk at the Auburn store said gift certificates will be honored at the store if they were issued between Aug. 5 and Dec. 5 of this year. Consumers with gift certificates outside of that time frame will have to file with bankruptcy court if they want relief.

The company was a subsidiary of Trend-Lines, selling brand name and private label tools under the Reliant and Carb-Tech names. It also sold electrical, hardware, painting, plumbing, metalwork and welding supplies and equipment. Trend-Lines filed for bankruptcy in 2000, but emerged from it in 2001.

Calls to Great American Group liquidators were not immediately returned.
