1924 – 2003

LEWISTON – Simeon J. Labonte, 79, formerly of 20 Highland Ave., Lewiston, and a resident of the d’Youville Pavilion for the past two years, died Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Central Maine Medical Center.

Born in Lewiston on April 1, 1924, he was the son of Albert and Marie Rousseau Labonte. Educated in local schools, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. During his service he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart.

On July 4, 1949, he married the former Lorraine Y. Lajoie in Ss. Peter and Paul Church. He founded and managed the Labonte Fuel Service, then was employed for many years as an oil truck driver for the Webber Oil Company and was a newspaper carrier for the Portland Press-Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram newspapers. A member of Holy Family Parish, he was an avid bowler and enjoyed competing in several leagues over the years.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 54 years, Lorraine Labonte of Lewiston; three sons, Paul and wife, Sharon, of Scarborough, Marc and companion, Gayla Peters, of Lewiston, and Denis of Saco; two daughters, Diane Casavant and husband, Gerard, of Hudson, N.H., and Carol Pleau and husband, Jim, of Auburn; a sister, Miette St. Onge of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, Travis, Cameron, and Dylan Labonte, Sarah, Jeanine, and Hillary Casavant, and Nina and Brady Pleau; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Michael Jacques, and a step-great-granddaughter, Asha.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Claude Labonte, sister-in-laws Jeannette and Dorothy Lajoie, and a brother-in-law, Laurier St. Onge.
