WOBURN, Mass. – Vivian Matkivich, pretreatment and safety coordinator for the Lewiston-Auburn Water Pollution Control Authority, will be awarded the New England Water Environment Association’s Alfred E. Peloquin Award for the state.

Matkivich will receive the award at the association’s annual conference award luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston.

Matkivich was selected for her role in the development of a model program for the authority and creation of a special operations team to respond to hazardous materials incidents.

Her dedication to improving the environment and her willingness to accept nearly any challenge has made her stand out among her peers. Additionally, it was on her initiative that the Maine Waste Water Control Association’s Pretreatment Committee was formed. Throughout her career, she has been a supporter of the Maine Waste Water Control Association.

The award is given annually to an individual who has shown a high level of interest and performance in wastewater operations in each of the six New England states. An individual is selected who has made a significant contribution to the waste water field in such areas as improvements to the environment, cost effective plant operations, public relations, innovative process controls, industrial pretreatment, training, association contributions and related activities.

The association, the region’s largest organization of water pollution control professionals, has been working to protect and improve the area’s water environment for more than 70 years.

It directs and promotes the research, development, and application of more advanced and effective water pollution control practices and technologies to protect water resources, safeguard public health and preserve environmental quality.
