FARMINGTON – A 24-year-old Franklin County man will spend the next two and half years in state prison after he had unlawful sexual contact with a girl under the age of 14.
Daniel Vigue, 24, who has lived in Farmington and Kingfield, pleaded guilty in September to three counts of Class B felony unlawful sexual contact and one count of felony unlawful sexual contact Class C. At the time of the plea he was living in Skowhegan undergoing addiction rehabilitation for an OxyContin addiction
Over the summer, Vigue had been indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on three counts of Class A gross sexual assault, and three counts of unlawful sexual contact Class B and one count of unlawful sexual contact Class C.
In the plea agreement, Vigue admitted to the unlawful contact counts and the gross sexual assault counts were dropped.
According to Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson, the unlawful contact occurred in March of 2003 when Vigue was at his Kingfield home.
In Franklin County Superior Court on Monday, Judge Joseph Jabar sentenced Vigue to seven years, with all but two and a half suspended.
Upon his release from state prison, Vigue will be on probation for six years.
During that time, he is to undergo sex offender treatment, have no contact with the victim or her family and not use any alcohol or illegal substances, and be subject to random search and testing.
He must also register as a violent sexual predator for the rest of his life.
At the sentencing, the victim, who was present with her family, gave a tearful explanation to the court as to the dramatic impact the unlawful contact had on her, both physically and emotionally, Robinson said.
She also said that she was scared, he added, and that she felt “ashamed” and “slutty.”
