DETROIT (AP) – Andrew Raycroft made 36 saves for his second career shutout in the Boston Bruins’ 3-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night.
Joe Thornton, Travis Green and Mike Knuble scored to help the Bruins snap Detroit’s four-game winning streak and 12-game home unbeaten streak.
Thornton opened the scoring 6:35 left in the first period, skating in off the right wing and tucking the puck into the short side after a couple of moves on goalie Curtis Joseph.
Raycroft made successive big saves on Tomas Holmstrom midway through the first period.
Raycroft also stopped Henrik Zetterberg on a breakaway with 9:52 remaining in the game.
Green made it 2-0 with 4:28 remaining in the second period when he tapped a weird carom off the backboards through Joseph’s pads. Knuble scored 2:01 into the third period.
Notes: Detroit RW Brett Hull has failed to score in 15 games, the longest drought of his career. … Thornton has at least a point in five of his last six games. … Detroit coach Dave Lewis will be one of the Western Conference’s two coaches for the Feb. 8 NHL All-Star game in St. Paul, Minn., because the Red Wings are assured of one of the top two winning percentages in the Western Conference through Thursday. That’s when the All-Star coaches will be determined. The coach of the top team in each conference will be the head coach and the coach of the next best team will serve as his assistant … The Bruins have successfully killed 49 of the last 51 short-handed situations.
