1920 – 2004

LEWISTON – Elsie Knight Bryant, 83, of Mechanic Falls died Friday, Jan. 16, at Central Maine Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side.

She was born in Mechanic Falls, Nov. 26, 1920, the daughter of Clifford Knight and Bessie Holmes Knight Bailey.

She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1938, and was married to Harold Bryant in 1942. He passed away in 1972.

In 1979, she married Vernard Bryant of York who passed away in 1987.

She worked at the former Ponds Tissue Mill, later known as Marcal Tissue in the quality control room for many years.

After the mill closed, she worked at Oxford Marking in quality control. She also worked a short time as a CNA at Montello Manor and part-time at MacHardy Drug Store in Mechanic Falls.

She was a 22-year member of Colfax Rebekah Lodge 27 and was Noble Grand in 1984-85 and 91-92, she was Past District Deputy President of District 3 1988-89 and 1992-93; and was a Past President of the Androscoggin Valley Past Noble Grands Association in Auburn in 1995-96.

She received the Decoration of Chivalry from the Rebekah Assembly of Maine in 1993.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Minot, was treasurer of the board of trustees there for many years and also served on the worship and nominating committees.

She enjoyed and will be sadly missed by her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed taking friends shopping, going out to eat, and playing cards.

Survivors include three sons, Lloyd of Port Richey, Fla., Richard and his wife Nancy of Minot, Jay and his wife Penny of Mechanic Falls; a sister, Evalyn Hooker of Winter Park, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
