LEWISTON – The search is continuing this week for a man who threatened several people with a gun Friday night as he robbed the Flagship Cinema on Lisbon Street.
Police on Tuesday released a composite of the suspect in hopes of garnering information from the public.
The man is accused of walking into the cinema about 8 p.m. Friday, cocking and aiming a handgun while demanding money from a theater employee.
“He pointed the gun at a number of employees and a customer,” said Detective Brian O’Malley.
No shots were fired in the heist, which occurred as more than a hundred people watched movies inside the cinema’s theaters.
The suspect fled through the front door of the building and was gone before police arrived. It isn’t known if he fled on foot or jumped into a vehicle.
Investigators didn’t say how much money was taken in the holdup.
Police swarmed on the area moments after the robbery was reported. They searched parking areas behind and in front of the cinema as well as snow-covered paths leading from the scene.
Officers fanned out along nearby streets while others searched for tracks in the snow near railroad tracks behind Flagship.
The Flagship Cinema is next to Rock’N Robins at the Promenade Mall at 855 Lisbon St.
Police used a tracking dog in pursuit of the suspect but the trail was lost. Investigators searched Dumpsters next to the cinema and questioned people in the area at the time of the heist.
Witnesses who were in the lobby at the time of the robbery were able to describe the suspect to police.
He was said to be between 35 and 45 years old with brown hair partially covered by a hood. The man is believed to be between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall, and weighing 175 pounds or less.
The unidentified man is wanted on a charge of armed robbery. Anyone with information may phone O’Malley at 795-9000 ext. 230.
