1903 – 2004

LEWISTON – Elsa Bauer Wimmer, 100, of 427 Main St., Lewiston died at Russell Park Manor Tuesday Jan. 20.

She was born in Lewiston Dec. 10, 1903, the daughter of Ernst and Marie (Simion) Bauer. On Oct. 31, 1942, she married Frank Wimmer, a history teacher at Edward Little High School. She was educated at Lewiston High School, Lasell College in Massachusetts, and Katharine Gibbs School in New York City.

Before her marriage, she worked for Maine Central Railroad in Portland and later for the Bauer Hardware Store in Lewiston. With her parents she operated the Butler House in Old Orchard Beach for many years.

She loved animals, playing cards, her cottage at Old Orchard Beach, traveling, and her extended family.

Her survivors include two neices, Joan Bauer Howard and her husband Jerry of Stratham, N.H., Mary Bauer Profenno and her husband Peter of Portland; one nephew, William Bauer and his wife Nancy of Fredericton, N.B.; eight grandneices and grandnephews; 10 great-grandnephews and neices; a cousin, Helen Simion Hammond and her husband Russell; and her loyal friend, Richard Hinkley.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her twin brother, Ernest; and her brother, Alfred.
