1924 – 2004

RUMFORD – Clarence Joseph “Yap” Gallant, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Rumford Community Home where he had resided for the past three years.

He was born in Rumford, May 28, 1924, a son of George M. and Ida (Arsenault) Gallant. He was raised on Waldo Street in Rumford and attended Stephens High School.

He was a member of the Horseshoe Club and the pool league at the Eagles Club. He enjoyed watching the baseball leagues at the three fields and taking rides all around the town of Rumford.

He is survived by three brothers, George “Puggy” of Springfield, Mass., John “Pete” of Ellenton, Fla., and Walter “Busy” Gallant of Rumford; three sisters, Marion “Doris” Gallant and her husband Maurice of Rumford, Marie “Rita” Perry of Topsham and Mary “Ida” Luther and her husband Charles of Roxbury; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Alfred Gallant Jr.

He was predeceased by brothers, Alfred “Speed”, Joseph “Pea Soup” and Edward “Elwee” Gallant.
