WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior forward/center Bryan Lambert of Auburn was selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) men’s basketball player of the week.
The Judges tri-captain averaged 20 points and 10.3 rebounds in three games. He also had four steals, four assists, and two blocked shots.
Lambert, an Edward Little graduate, opened the week with 15 points and four rebounds in a 67-57 loss at Tufts. Then at Case Western Reserve, Lambert led all players with 24 points and 11 rebounds, but was unable to lift the Judges to victory in an 81-78 loss in Cleveland. Finally, against Emory University in Atlanta, he scored 21 points and matched his career-high with 16 rebounds. The Judges won 92-86 to pick up their first conference win of the season.
It was also Brandeis’ first win in their last 15 conference road games.
For the week, Lambert shot 54.8 percent from the floor, including four of nine from 3-point range. He also hit 83.3 percent of his free throws.
Lambert is Brandeis’ leading scorer (16.6 points per game) and rebounder (8.4). He is second in the conference in rebounding and sixth in scoring. His 1.3 blocked shot per game are fourth in the league.
Colby’s Ummah named ECAC Track Co-Field Athlete of the Week
WATERVILLE – Colby College senior Karima Ummah (Litchfield) was honored as Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III women’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week.
Ummah, an All-American last year for the Mules, is off to a big start to the 2004 indoor track and field season. Ummah has won 10 of the 11 individual events she has entered this season and has one second-place finish.
Ummah won all three individual events she entered at the Laval University Invitational in Quebec last Saturday. She won the 60-meter hurdles (9.80), the high jump (5-3), and the triple jump (34-11.75).
