1923 – 2004
LEWISTON – Jean Paul Gagnon, 80, of 77 College St., Lewiston, died Sunday, Feb. 8, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, surrounded by his children, after a courageous fight against cancer.
Born in Lewiston, April 7, 1923, the son of Mathias and Blanche (Longchamps) Gagnon, he had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He married Bertha (Betty) Hugi on May 24, 1947, and she died on Feb. 24, 1986. Mr. Gagnon was employed in the grocery business for many years, most of which were at Food Town.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of SS. Peter and Paul Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Gagne and her husband, Bertrand and Ann Marie Gagne and her husband, Gerald, all of Lewiston; two sons, Patrick Gagnon and his wife, Laurel of Asheville, N.C., and Raymond Gagnon and his wife, Ann Marie of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Brian, Heidi and Eric; five brothers, Gerald, Gilbert, Marcel, Richard and Normand; two sisters, Carmen and Lucille; his companion, Peggy Boucher; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Betty; and two brothers, Florian and Laurier Gagnon.
