SOUTH PARIS – Upsets spiced play Sunday as the Western Maine Youth Basketball League (Grades 5-6) held the Girls Division playoffs at Oxford Hills Middle School.

In the B Bracket, AYS of Jay-Livermore, which finished fourth in the North Division, won the title with a 27-25 win over North Franklin. Third place went to Auburn Rec with a 31-20 victory over Auburn-Lewiston YMCA.

In the A Bracket, Dixfield (6-4) shocked Oxford Hills (10-0) 25-13. “It was a very good learning moment for my girls,” said OH coach Tina Fox. “It was not in the cards for us today.” Lindsay Fox led OH with 7 points.

Wilton won the other semifinal game over Turner.

In the consolation contest, Oxford Hills beat Turner 33-27 as Megan Joyce tallied 14 points. Abby Randall led Turner with 7. OH is heading to Waterville this weekend for a single-elimination tournament.

In the A Bracket championship game, Dixfield took home the trophy by knocking off Wilton 23-11. Ricki Sinclair and Jane Hebert each scored 6 points. Sarah Deveau scored 3 for Wilton.

Leavitt Men’s League

TURNER – Ben Alpren Machine suffered its first loss Sunday in the Leavitt Area Men’s Basketball League. James Whirley scored 29 points to lead Ruff Riders to an 82-78 upset win over the Machinists. Dan Coleman (26) and Shawn Spadea (20) paced Alpren.

Dubord Realty-Ranor moved to within 1 game of first place with a 100-97 triumph over Lisbon Road Animal Hospital. Josh Wilcox torched the nets for 50 points. Aaron St. Pierre added 24. Mike Grahm tallied 29 in a losing effort.

John Stanton popped in 24 and Farausi Cherry added 21 as Gemini Nutrition outlasted Lost Crusaders 99-93. Fred Dilligent poured in 41 for Crusaders.

Dave Ferraro knocked down 32 as Shooters trimmed Sturtevant & Ham Insurance 125-68. Mike Lance scored 41 for the Insurancemen who had to compete with just 4 players. The other 3 were Bill Menke, Mike Hathaway and Wes Sirois.
