1920 – 2004

Lewiston – Virginia Davis died Feb. 14, at Central Maine Medical Center after a period of failing health.

She was born Dec. 17, 1920 in Farmington Falls, the youngest child of Clara King and Lemuel Hodgkins. After graduating in 1940 from Farmington Normal School, she taught in North Jay, Brunswick, and Stoneham, Mass. until marrying Harold Davis at North Pownal on July 10, 1954. They resided in West Durham until moving to Brunswick in 1970.

She had belonged to the Extension Group and the Ladies Guild of the Durham Congregational Church.

She taught kindergarten for 18 years in Brunswick until retiring in 1980. She then wintered for 10 years at Harbor Cove in North Port, Fla. and enjoyed golfing, swimming, and shuffleboard.

She attended the Brunswick United Methodist Church and belonged to its Loyalty Club. She played bridge at the 55 Plus Center on a weekly basis. She was the former secretary of the Bath Brunswick Retired Teachers Association and the North Pownal Community Club.

She is survived by her son, Tom Davis, of Lewiston; a sister, Dorothea Small, of Cabot, Penn.; and two brothers-in-law, Bernard Small of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Stuart Locke of Niskayuna, N.Y..

Seven siblings predeceased her.
