FARMINGTON – Farmington police arrested an Alabama man at a motel after he allegedly raped his ex-wife early Monday. The man also allegedly threatened to kill the woman and assaulted her, police said.

Barry Cain, 41, of Jasper, Ala., was charged with gross sexual assault, criminal threatening and domestic assault, Farmington police Detective Marc Bowering said.

Farmington police officers Andrew Hufnagel, Bridgette Dellarma and Sgt. Peter Barton responded to the report of a domestic situation at 12:10 a.m. at Farmington Motel on Farmington Falls Road, Bowering said.

Officers interviewed Cain and his 41-year-old ex-wife, the detective said.

The victim was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital on Wilton Road to be checked by hospital staff, Bowering said.

Cain was taken to Franklin County jail.

The two are divorced but had been traveling together for business purposes, Bowering said.

No bail was listed on the jail’s arrest log.

Bowering said he assumed Cain would be arraigned Tuesday when court resumes after the holiday.
