1937 – 2004

NORWAY – Charles Augustus Smith Jr., 66, of South Paris died Monday, Feb. 16, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lewiston on April 26, 1937, the son of Charles Sr. and Ethel Ellsworth Smith. He attended Oxford High School and worked in local shoe shops. He also worked at Robinson Manufacturing.

He married Gloria Maxim on Sept. 15, 1956. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching boxing and he followed sporting events that his children and grandchildren were involved in.

He is survived by his wife of South Paris; two sons, Charles Smith III and Jack W. Smith both of Norway; a daughter, Paula R. Smith of Norway; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. Smith, Jason E. Smith and Tayla Smith all of Norway; a brother, Robert D. Smith and his wife Jane of Poland; two sisters, Dorothy Libby and Celia Jacobs and her husband Arthur all of Rochester, N.H.; three brothers-in-law, David Maxim of Poland, Craig Maxim of Norway and Clyde West Sr. of Oxford; a niece, Cynthia Ayotte; and a nephew, Arthur Libby, Jr. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lea Libby of Laconia, N.H., and Elizabeth West of Oxford.
