1920 – 2004

BATH – Norman E. Rowell Sr., 83, of Ridge Road, West Bath, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, at a Bath nursing facility.

He was born in Liberty on May 27, 1920, a son of Elden and Leola Choate Rowell. He attended Liberty and Belfast schools.

He married Dorothy M. Collins in 1941, and Alice M. Flockhart in 1957.

As a young man he worked as a lumberjack in the Maine woods and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression. He also worked demolishing and moving buildings.

He later worked as a welder for Bath Iron Works and retired in 1985, after 40 years of service.

He enjoyed target shooting, hunting, photography, motor boating, fishing, radios, riding motorcycles, antique airplanes, and big band music. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by two sons, Norman E. Jr. and his wife Dorine Rowell of Bath and David A. and his wife Donna of Auburn; four grandchildren, Carry Rowell of Bath, Audrey Murray of Woolwich, Melissa Rowell of Chandler, Ariz., and Andrew Rowell of Orono; two sisters, Audrey Denbo of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marie Simanonok and her husband Leo of Saco; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wives; a sister, Avis Beals; two brothers, Robert Moody and John Moody.
