1920 – 2004

LEWISTON – Daniel J. Desjardin, DPM., 83, a resident of 128 Granite St., Auburn died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 18, at Central Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born June 26, 1920, in Lewiston the son of Timothy Anthony and Mary (Conley) Desjardin. Dr. Desjardin attended Lewiston schools and was a 1938 graduate of Lewiston High School. He served in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier with the 8th Air Force in Europe on a B-24 Liberator from 1942-1945 during World War II.

Following the war, he attended Bates College, Arizona State University and was a 1949 graduate of the Illinois College of Podiatry Medicine in Chicago.

On Sept. 17, 1949, he married the former Lorraine Caho and they have been married 54 years.

Dr. Desjardin had been a practicing podiatrist in Lewiston from 1950, to his retirement in 1988. He was a past president of the Maine Podiatry Association, and was appointed subsequent terms to the Maine State Board of Podiatry under former Gov. James Longley. He was a long time member of the American Legion Post 153 of New Auburn, and former member of the Lewiston Auburn Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of Auburn; one son, Gregory J. Desjardin and his wife Mary of Auburn; two daughters, Dorothy D. Foote and her husband Charles III of Rockport, Katherine J. Thorburn and her husband, Mark of Haverford, Pa.; two brothers, Clement A. Desjardin of Auburn, and Dr. John W. Desjardin and his wife, Mary of Bonita, Calif.; one sister, Margaret Chevas of Florida; seven grandchildren, Andrea, Morgan, and William Foote, Alexandra and Anna Desjardin, and Samuel and Ellen Thorburn.
