PARIS – Several new courses are starting this week at Oxford Hills Adult Education. A one-day workshop which will provide answers on why mold is a problem in residential structures, including causes and cures, will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25. This workshop is led by home inspection expert Paul Thomfeldt and is free.

A woodlot management beginner’s course for woodlot owners will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26. Topics will include tree identification, deeds and boundaries, timber harvesting, wildlife management, forestry taxes and regulations and working with a consulting forester.

This six-week course sponsored by Maine Forest Service and SWOAM will meet from 7-9 p.m. For more information or to register for these courses, call Oxford Hills Adult Education at 743-8842, ext. 1.

Registration extended

PARIS – The First Universalist Church has extended the registration deadline for the quilting socials to Feb. 26.

The series of social get-togethers titled “Making It Through March,” include quilting hand-made pillows with Barbara Swan Frost from 2 to 4 p.m. on March 2 and 9, writing fun with Sharon Bouchard from 1 to 3 p.m. March 16, candle art with Renee Wales from 1 to 3 p.m. March 23 and fun and games from 2 to 4 p.m. March 30.

All the events are free and open to the everyone. Registration for the quilting sessions is appreciated to assure having enough materials on hand.

Worship in Music church program

PARIS – Worship in Music will be the focus of the 10 a.m. service at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, Sunday, Feb. 29. Organ music will begin at 9:50 followed by the service and readings.

The music will be under the direction of Forest Perkins, church organist.

Sunday School will be in session and child care is provided. The coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. Everyone is welcome.

Knitting guild

NORWAY – The monthly meeting of the Western Maine Knitting Guild wil be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 2, at Christ Episcopal Church. Members are to bring yarn, needles, patterns etc. for the silent auction. New members welcome. For more information, call 743-7677.

Musical program at Universalist church

NORWAY – The Feb. 29th service at the Norway Unitarian Universalist church will center around “Singing Our Visions of Action, Transformation and Hope.” Led by Cynthia Seavey and Heather Pierson and the choir, this is a re-enactment of a music program written by Eugene Navias, David Johnson and Marta Valentin and performed during the General Assembly last summer.

Worship services begin at 11 a.m., led by the Rev. Joy Gasta, with Music Director Heather Pierson and the choir. Religious education starts at 11:15 a.m. Children attend the first part of the service with their parents. A coffee social immediately follows the service. All are welcome. The church is located at 479 Main St.

BUCKFIELD – A potluck dinner (bring a dish) is being held at 5 p.m. March 13, for Kimberly Hood Ellis, who is fighting breast cancer. There will be a silent auction, disc jockey and dancing. Adults $10 and children 12 and under $5.

Duplicate Bridge results given

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge met Friday at the Fare Share Food Coop. Former players welcomed back were Bill Bowman, Pam and Errol Libby and Paul Barber. Winners Friday were: first, Pam and Errol Libby; second, David Lock and Martine Begert; third, Pete Cummings and Paul Barber; and fourth, Bill Bowman and Nancy Farmer.

Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge welcomes any bridge player new to duplicate. It is easy to get started. The group meets every Friday and starts games promptly at 9 a.m. Players should arrive early.
