Apparently, the league did not feel that Travis Mealy’s infraction was as serious as the similar one committed by Jeff Cotton of Val-d’Or.

Mealy, suspended last week by the league after striking an official during an altercation with George Davis in Halifax, was given a two-game suspension Monday, but was credited with time-served over the weekend.

Mealy will be allowed back into the lineup starting Wednesday at home against Cape Breton.

With the end of the season approaching, the Maineiacs have scheduled their first awards banquet for March 17 at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center in Lewiston.

The team will present nine awards at the 6:30 p.m. ceremony, including Most Improved Player, Rookie of the Year, the Sportsmanship Award and an award for fan favorite.

“We figured it was important to give the fans a chance to be a part of this,” Maineiacs Vice President and Governor Matt McKnight said.

The fan balloting will be set up at the Colisee this week as the Maineiacs host Cape Breton and Acadie-Bathurst.

More information on the banquet is available by contacting the Colisee.
