DIXFIELD – People of any denomination are welcomed to the Dixfield Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Friday, March 5, for the 117th World Day of Prayer. This year’s service is written by the women of Panama based on the theme, “In Faith, Women Shape The Future.”

Readers and singers from different area churches present the service that includes hymns, prayers, scripture readings and information about Panama that concludes with the passing of pottery from hand to hand throughout the congregation. The service lasts about an hour and is followed by refreshments and fellowship.

Area quilters

RUMFORD – Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street.

Those participating in the butterfly challenge square should bring their finished square to this meeting.

All area quilters are welcome.

College planning

RUMFORD – The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will be holding a free workshop on the essentials of college planning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 22, at the Rumford Career Center. The course is for adults considering college. Register by calling 1-800-281-3703.

Class luncheon

MEXICO – The Mexico High School Class of 1953 will meet for a luncheon at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Covered Wagon Restaurant.
