PORTLAND (AP) – The Manchester Monarchs scored twice within a minute early in the third period, erasing a one-goal deficit and defeating the Portland Pirates 3-1 Saturday in the American Hockey League.
The Pirates’ loss extended their winless string to 10 straight.
After a scoreless first period, Portland (22-22-12-7) grabbed a 1-0 lead after Graham Mink took an Ivan Ciernik pass and netted a slap shot from the left faceoff circle at 6:06 of the second.
The Monarchs (30-21-6-5) tied it when Pavel Rosa scored his 25th of the season on the power play 4:41 into the third period, and Yanick Lehoux connected for the go-ahead goal at 5:39.
Bryan Muir scored an empty-net goal for the final tally with 16 seconds remaining.
Adam Hauser turned aside 20 of 21 shots on net for the Monarchs, while Maxsime Ouellet had 28 saves in the loss.
