RUMFORD – Selectmen will hear a variety of requests when they meet Thursday.

They range from funds for a new warming building for the public ice skating rink to money to help the Moontide Water Festival events.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Municipal Building.

Town Manager Robert Welch said a Parks Department representative will ask for funds to construct or acquire a warming building for skaters at the new rink, located on the old ball field.

If selectmen agree, that request will be added to the town’s proposed municipal budget that will be acted on at the annual town meeting in June.

Moontide Water Festival representatives are expected to ask for a donation to the fireworks program scheduled for July 4, and for a hawker’s and peddler’s license to cover vendors at the festival.

The town generally contributes about $10,000 to the fireworks, taken from cable franchise fees.

The board will also consider a donation, also to be taken from the cable franchise fees, to Western Valley Access Channel.

Discussions on participating in the River Valley Expo set for September, and for the River Valley Municipal Summit set for March 31 will also be considered.

Other agenda items include: solicitation for nominees for Citizen of the Year and discussion on whether to lift the winter parking ban.

Closed sessions are scheduled to discuss union negotiations for the highway and police departments and to discuss a legal matter related to the Muskie Building.
