SHUBENACADIE, Nova Scotia – Scott Fraser, of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, a veteran stock car racer with numerous wins and championships, including a third place in the 1999 Oxford 250, was killed early Saturday morning in a snowmobile accident in the Wentworth Valley region of Nova Scotia.

A second-generation racer, Fraser, 33, followed his father Frank into the oval bullrings and began racing in 1987 at Onlsow Speedway at the age of 16. Fraser competed in the Oxford 250 on several occasions. Among his many accomplishments was the 1996 MASCAR championship, a year in which he won 12 of 15 feature events.

In 2000, Fraser competed on the American Speed Association (ASA) series driving for Rollie MacDonald. In his first outing, he qualified second and finished eighth. In 2001, Fraser competed in 13 ASA races and posted four top-10 finishes. The ASA series will debut at Oxford Plains in August.

During his career, Fraser won the prestigious Riverside 250 an unprecedented six consecutive times, and also won a feature on the now-defunct ACT Pro Stock Tour.
