TURNER – It took 3 games, but Dubord Realty/Ranor Inc., (2) is the playoff champion in the Leavitt Area Men’s Basketball League.

The Realtors split the first 2 games of the best-of-3 series with Ben Alpren Machine (1), but captured the deciding contest 84-81.

In game 1, Dubord/Ranor prevailed 102-80 as Scott Bessey poured in 26 points. Shawn Spadea led the Machinists with 25. Dane Pomerleau added 23.

In game 2, Alpren got even with an 85-78 victory. Spadea led with 19. Dan Coleman was next with 17. Bessey (16) and Aaron St. Pierre (15) paced the losers.

In the championship contest, Brian Demshar came through with 17 points as Dubord/Ranor claimed the crown. Pomerleau (25) and Spadea (15) led Alpren.

In the consolation game, Ruff Riders took third place by outlasting Gemini Nutrition 95-86 as James Whirley netted 22. John Stanton scored 24 for Gemini. Matt Winslow added 20.

Jaguars take third

WATERVILLE – The Maine Jaguars, a 15-under girls basketball team comprised of players from Mt Abram., Mt. Blue and Livermore Falls, finished third at the YBOA Girls State Tournament that was completed last weekend.

In game 1, Caryn Howell scored 16 points to power the Jaguars to a 45-29 victory over the Dixfield Lady Blizzard. Alyson Webster added 7. Stephanie Coburn and Caitlin Scott chipped in with 6 each. C. Jamison led the Blizzard with 6 points. K. Gagne and M. Jolin added 5 apiece.

The Jaguars dropped game 2 to Camden Area Blizzards 58-40. K. Carleton led the winners with 11 points, J. Ross added 9. Mallory Stevens popped in a dozen for the Jags. Howell was next with 9.

In game 3, Howell tallied 16 and Stevens 14 as the Jaguars squeezed past the Lady Black Bears 43-38. H. Stanwood (18) and A. Chandler (11) led the Bears.

Western Stars go 1-1

WATERVILLE – The Western Stars 16-year-old girls hoop team split a pair of games during the weekend at the YBOA Girls State Tournament.

The Stars dropped a 47-42 decision to the Roadrunners despite a 28-point performance from C. Mosher. A. Frechette added 5 and A. Mansir 3. K. Arsenault led the Roadrunners with 16 points. A Kaubris and H. Knight added 12 and 9, respectively.

The Western Stars knocked off the Blue Devils 58-39 as Mosher scored 16, Mansir 12 and A. Laney 8. K. Pelletier led the Devils with 12. B. Reed added 10 and S. Libby 5.
