BEVERLY, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Katie Mainville allowed just two hits and no earned runs as the University of Southern Maine Huskies peddled past the Endicott College Gulls 3-1 in the first game of their non-conference softball doubleheader Monday.
Senior Darci Holland was the offensive hero for the Huskies as she stroked a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning to put the Huskies ahead, 2-1. USM added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI by freshman Christen Lachappelle.
In Game 2, the Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run double by junior Kristin Tong while Endicott rallied in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game in a two-run double by junior Elyse Colby.
USM took a 4-2 lead in the fourth on RBI singles by senior Angela Cote and Christen Lachappelle.
St. Joe’s, Thomas split
WATERVILLE – St. Joseph’s and Thomas colleges split a doubleheader Monday. The Terriers took the first game 9-8, while the Monks won the nightcap 3-2, in Waterville in softball action Monday afternoon.
In the first game, hits were spread out evenly, with Jasmine Carey, Mistie Bickford, and Heather Johnson each recording two hits a piece for the Thomas.
Brindi Riley and Kayla Beaudoin each hit doubles for Thomas.
Women’s lacrosse
Endicott 16, USM 3
GORHAM – Lindsey O’Connell scored a game-high four goals and was credited with one assist as Endicott College defeated the University of Southern Maine with a 16-3 win in non-conference lacrosse action Monday.
The Gulls scored early and often, racing to a 10-1 lead at the break. Christine Wilmott had three goals and two assists, and Katie White had three goals and an assist for the Gull (5-6) win as well. Cathy Sharp and Heather Hatfield each tallied a pair of goals as well.
Emily Kirkland, Amanda Loomis, and Justene Larnerd each netted a goal for the Huskies (1-6) effort.
