JAY – Selectmen voted Monday to hold the line on the town’s donation for fireworks for 2005.

Jay gives $5,000 to the tri-town fireworks display. Livermore Falls donates $1,500 and Livermore gives between $250 and $500.

The Jay-Livermore-Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce has a committee that oversees putting on the annual fireworks display July 3.

Chamber members have requested an increase for next year because display costs are rising and funds would be exhausted.

In 1999, the display cost $6,000; in 2000, it was $6,500; in 2002, it was $7,500; and, in 2005, it’s estimated to cost $8,250, First Selectman Bill Harlow said.

Fireworks have to be ordered a year ahead.

“I think we ought to hold the line,” Selectman Rick Simoneau said, noting the state of the economy. If they have to scale back the display, they have to scale back, he said.

Resident Steve McCourt said, “It sounds to me the town of Jay has put in their fair share.”
