PARIS – As part of Groundhog Job Shadow Day 2004, 14 students enrolled in the marketing and retail management at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School spent the morning at Wal-Mart in Oxford learning about retail career perspectives.
Alyssa Bouchard, community involvement coordinator at Wal-Mart, made the initial contact to Oxford Hills Education Exchange Director Maureen Howard.
National Job Shadow Day was supported by America’s Promise and was expected to give more that a million young people an up-close look at the world of work. This is the third year that the Oxford Wal-Mart joined the job shadow initiative.
Bouchard and RJ Nowak, co-manager of Wal-Mart, coordinated the local event. Steph Jones, a sophomore in the marketing class, said she was impressed at how Wal-Mart keeps track of everything.
The students learned about Wal-Mart’s sales and marketing strategies in the infants department, shipping, receiving, computer systems and the advantages of choosing a career in the Wal-Mart Corp.
