MEDFORD, Mass. – Senior left-hander Jason Thibodeau allowed one run and fanned a career-high 12 batters in a complete game effort to lead Southern Maine to a 7-1 win Sunday over the UMass-Boston.

In a display of freshman prowess, the Huskies (14-8-1) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a walk to Joe McGhee, an RBI double by Joe Ganley and an RBI single by Nick Vardaro. Freshman Ryan Bourque made it 5-0 in the fifth when he followed a pair of singles with his second home run of the season.
UMF drops pair
FARMINGTON – Becker College exploded for 32 hits to earn a pair of wins, 15-9 and 14-8, over the UMaine-Farmington in baseball action Sunday.

Keith LeBlanc and John Rutkiewicz were the most prolific batters for the Beavers with four hits apiece on the day.
Saint Joseph’s splits pair
STANDISH – Ben Muniz lifted a home run and Matt Prunier went 3-for-3 to share in keeping St. Joseph’s from dropping a doubleheader to Keene State, 4-5 and 5-4.

Pitcher Matt Vasil gave up five runs through three innings to take the loss for the Monks (8-18) in Game 1, before Pat Mileski solved Keene St. over the next four innings. Mileski fanned three and allowed two hits.
Bates drops pair
LEWISTON – Chris Kenney hit a two-run blast in the top of the eighth inning to give the Ephs a 4-2 win in the opener, then went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead Williams College to a 6-0 win in the nightcap over Bates.

Rob Maguire led the Bobcats (9-9) with two solo home runs, one in the fourth and again in the sixth innings to tie the game each time. Bates had a chance to win the game with runners on first and second in the seventh, but hit into an inning-ending double play to send the game into extra innings.
Maine, Hartford split
BANGOR – Maine rallied for four runs in the fourth inning and Troy Martin pitched four scoreless innings to prevent Maine from dropping both games to Hartford, 1-6 and 8-3, in baseball action Sunday.

Aaron Izaryk, Greg Creek, Joel Barrett and Matt McGraw pounded out two hits apiece in Game 2 for the Black Bears (16-15). Barrett recorded a double, two RBIs and scored a run.
Softball
St. Joe’s, Colby split
WATERVILLE – Lauren Olmsted tossed a three-hit shutout for Colby to notch the opener, 5-0, while St. Joseph’s rallied for four runs late to take the nightcap, 5-4, in doubleheader softball action Sunday.

Olmsted fanned five, walked two and helped her own cause with a two-run single in the third inning of Game 1. Emily Allen added a pair of hits and a run, while Elizabeth Riley doubled and scored for the Mules (10-10-1).

Colby was about to cement both games, when the Monks (6-21) battled back with four runs in the top of the seventh. Kahler Dowling had a two-run double and Sarah Martin had an RBI single.

Allyson Ferguson of Sabattus allowed five hits, walked one and had no strikeouts in earning the complete game win for the Monks.
Middlebury sweeps Bates
LEWISTON – Middlebury scored 11 unanswered runs in the first game and Lauren Bowe pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap as the Panthers swept Bates, 11-3 and 5-1.

Kyla Decato of Paris capped a three-run first inning of the opener for the Bobcats (5-10) with a two-run double, but the Panthers (14-6) responded with four runs in the third and six runs in the fourth inning.

Dayna Krakower led off the bottom of the third inning of the nightcap with a double to deep right center for the Bobcats and later scored on an error to cut the lead to one, but that was all the scoring Bates could muster.
UMF splits pair
FARMINGTON – Mary Berry went 3-for-3 in the opener to lead the UMaine-Farmington to a 6-2 win, while the Beavers struggled for hits in the nightcap as Johnson State came away with a 1-0 win.

Kristi Cochin and Holly Tripp each went 2-for-4 with a triple apiece for the Beavers (5-9) in Game 1.

Tripp tallied her third hit of the day in Game 2, while Sara Martin and Jamie Young picked up their only singles of the day in the loss.
USM drops pair
GORHAM – Senior pitcher Kim Warrington went 11 innings to earn the win in the opener, and came back in relief to notch the save in the nightcap as Rhode Island College took a pair of 2-1 victories from Southern Maine.

Katie Mainville sufferred her first loss of the season (12-1) for the Huskies (22-5).

Krysten Alexander doubled in the first inning of the nightcap to drive in the only runs Rhode Island needed to sweep the Huskies.
Thomas splits pair
WATERVILLE – Jasmine Carey went 3-for-3 in the opener as Thomas College split a pair with Casetleton State, 7-3 and 6-9, in doubleheader softball action Sunday.

The Terriers (11-5) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two, and added three safeties in the sixth inning. Jen Couture and Kayla Beaudoin contributed a pair of hits each including a double for Beaudoin.

Despite a three-run first inning for the Terriers, Castleton St. (10-9-1) responded with five in the third, and scored in three of the four remaining innings to prevent the sweep.
