LIVERMORE FALLS – The Maine Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at its new office located at 79 Main St.
The key-note speaker will be Maine author and conservationist Bob Kimber, who will talk about outdoor ethics and reasons why people should think about their behavior in the outdoors.
Area state representatives and town officials will be present and children who attend will have an opportunity to make recycled envelopes from old calendars and magazines. A model of the Androscoggin River and its communities from Canton through Turner is under construction and will be on display.
In addition to improving outdoor ethics in the state, priorities for the Maine Chapter include addressing wildlife conservation concerns and surveying streams and rivers to assess fish habitat and possible pollutants.
Poster presentations illustrating the chapter’s statewide and community conservation efforts will be on display. Those interested in volunteering for any of the chapter’s projects can sign up during the open house. Volunteers play a role in implementing programs.
Founded in 1922 as a national organization of hunters, anglers and other conservation-minded outdoor enthusiasts, the league supports volunteer, community-based action and education programs to ensure the sustainable use of America’s natural resources. Programs focus on natural resource advocacy through state and federal legislation, outdoor ethics, community sustainability, energy efficiency and sustainable agricultural practices.
