CARRABASSETT VALLEY – An estimated 7,100 Reggae and spring skiing fans turned out for the 16th annual Budweiser Reggae Festival at Sugarloaf/USA.

With temperatures in the 60s and sun shining, thousands of skiers and riders converged on The Beach to listen to the sounds of the Caribbean from artists such as Anthem, One People, Mystic Vibes and Jah Spirit.

After dark the indoor stages came to life with the sounds of the Israel Vibration and the Roots Radics Band.

More than 70 trails, including two signature trails from Sugarloaf’s 4,237-foot summit, offered spring conditions. And although Reggae Weekend is the final celebration of the winter season, the skiing and riding will continue through Sunday, April 25.

The springtime reggae festival was born at Sugarloaf. The event got its start in 1987 as a way to celebrate the changing of the seasons.

The Sugarloaf Golf Club is expected to open for the season on Friday, May 7. For more information, log on to www.sugarloaf.com or call 1-800-THE LOAF.
