A charge of marijuana cultivation against the man’s girlfriend will be dismissed.
PARIS – An Oxford County Superior Court judge found a Roxbury man guilty Wednesday of felony possession of firearms by a prohibited person.
A felony charge of aggravated marijuana cultivation was dropped against Lawrence Edwards, 48, who had entered no plea to the firearms charge. Sentencing is to be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29.
A felony charge of aggravated marijuana cultivation against Edwards’ girlfriend, Melanie Fogg, 29, of Roxbury, will be dismissed, said Superior Court clerk Donna Howe.
Both were arrested in a drug sweep in Rumford and Roxbury on Oct. 23 by local, state and federal police intent on shutting down the manufacturing and use of methamphetamine in Lawrence’s and Fogg’s Roxbury residence, which is across from the town office.
During execution of an Oct. 23 search warrant, officers instead found five marijuana plants growing in their basement, and eight harvested pot plants hanging out to dry in the clothes closet of their master bedroom.
Police also found nine guns in the house, which led to the charge that Edwards was found guilty of violating.
According to a police affidavit, a background criminal records search of Edwards revealed that he had several felony-level convictions in Florida, including a strong arm rape, flight escape, marijuana producing, and for dangerous drugs, and several misdemeanor convictions.
He also had felony convictions in Texas for marijuana possession, carrying a prohibited weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.
