HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Left-hander Abe Alvarez struck out eight and walked one over six innings to lead the Portland Sea Dogs over the Harrisburg Senators 9-1 Monday. Alvarez (2-2) allowed only six hits, including Larry Broadway’s homer in the first inning that gave the Senators a brief 1-0 lead.

Portland scored two of its runs off Harrisburg starter Shawn Hill (1-3) in the second inning. Sheldon Fulse started the rally with a single and stole second before scoring on Mike Campo’s double. Campo scored when Brett Roneberg followed with a single.

Portland broke open the game in the eighth inning with four runs off relievers Ryan Douglass and Ignacio Puello, who combined to allow three hits and two walks while hitting two batters.

Portland added three runs in the ninth off Puello on Sean McGowan’s RBI single and Jeff Bailey’s two-run double.

Former major-leaguer Joe Nelson worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth before finishing off Harrisburg in the ninth for his fourth save.

Jesus Medrano finished with three of Portland’s 12 hits.
