Workshops will focus on health and wellness for those over 50.
LEWISTON – Growing older will be presented as a time for celebration at a local conference that will explore the topic of health and wellness for those enjoying the best half of life.
The Best Half of Your Life half-day conference will celebrate the years after 50 and will be a day of wellness in body, mind, and spirit from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s Lepage Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave.
Participants will come together with a roomful of people in their prime as the group looks at ways to flourish in maturity and create new experiences on the other side of the hill.
Sponsored by Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, Auburn Housing Authority, Catholic Charities Maine, Club 50, Community Concepts, Lewiston Housing Authority and SeniorsPlus, The Best Half of Your Life conference will provide educational sessions related to aging well, with a focus on various topics including health, leisure time and spirituality.
The Best Half of Your Life will offer a choice of workshops for participants. The topics will encompass a full range of health and wellness activities. Workshops offered are as follows: “Take Charge! of Your Health,” “Cooking for One or Two,” “Yoga without Pretzels,” “Pets for Seniors,” “Inspired at Any Age,” “Pain Relief without Drugs,” “Gardening in Small Spots,” “Asian and Mediterranean Diets,” “The Age of the Sage: Spirituality and Aging,” “Informed Choices in Estate Planning,” “Travel for a Change of Scenery” and “Latin Dancing.”
The conference will culminate with a luncheon and a keynote speaker. Maine native and humorist Susan Poulin will present her well-known play, “Ida: Woman Who Runs With the Moose.”
The play has received critical acclaim and has been performed from Maine to Minneapolis.
Registration is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pre-register by calling 777-8759. Registration fee is $14 and must be completed by Friday, May 14, to reserve a seat. Space is limited.
