LEWISTON – St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has joined with health care organizations across Maine and the nation to observe Cover the Uninsured Week from May 10 to 16.
St. Mary’s, in conjunction with the B Street Health Center, Community Clinical Services and Women’s Health Associates, will host a MaineCare Services Sign-up and Open House from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 12.
Designed to reach out to the residents of downtown Lewiston, the event will take place at the B Street Health Center on the corner of Bates and Birch streets.
Cover the Uninsured Week includes a group of organizations representing many sectors of American society, including business, labor, education and the faith community, as well as doctors, nurses, insurers, consumers and members of the entertainment industry.
Cover the Uninsured Week staff will work in communities across the country to build coalitions that will develop activities during the week and throughout the year to raise awareness of the problem and elevate this issue on state and national agendas. At the local open house, information on the following will be offered: local family practice physicians; FQHC and MaineCare payment services; health services for pregnant women; chemical dependency and behavioral medicine; the Good Shepherd Food Pantry; children’s dental care at B Street; and asthma screenings.
