LIVERMORE FALLS – A pole located at the intersection of Bridge and Main streets has once again been knocked over.
Wednesday night around 8 p.m. a tractor-trailer truck slammed into the pole, snapping it completely in half. According to Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr., no one was injured in the accident but traffic was backed up for some time.
Early Thursday morning subcontractors from the state Department of Transportation were busy working to erect a new pole.
The pole, which is strictly there to support the traffic lights at the intersection, has been knocked down several times before. “Since I’ve been here, it’s been knocked down three times,” said Steward.
Tractor-trailer drivers sometimes try to take the corner too sharply and, as a result, the pole pays the price, according to police.
