LEWISTON – An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Central Maine Medical Center, Main Street. As of early June, the blood supply is extremely low. Maine hospitals are lacking even a single day’s supply of some blood types; a reality that means many of those in need of blood will not be able to receive it. Blood is needed for many medical procedures, including cancer treatment, accident trauma and for a variety of surgical operations. Maine alone needs to collect nearly 300 pints each day in order to meet demands.

To be an eligible donor, a person only needs to weigh 110 pounds and be in good health. The American Red Cross is also offering a chance to win two Red Sox tickets, two Sea Dogs tickets or two tickets to a NASCAR event.
