RUMFORD – One incumbent retained her seat, and the second lost his during a five-way race for two seats on the Rumford Board of Selectmen.

The incumbent town clerk also kept her position.

Jolene Lovejoy won a fourth, three-year term on the board by receiving 708 votes. Former Selectman Jim Rinaldo pushed out incumbent Eugene Boivin who was making a bid for a third term on the board. Rinaldo received 635 votes. Boivin received 566. Also running for the board were first-timers, Arthur MacIsaac who received 552 votes, and Robert Grinnell who got 132 votes.

Boivin said he believed his loss was partially due to his stance on building a new fire station. He had strongly supported it at Monday’s annual town meeting.

MacIsaac said he was pleased with his first try for elective office. He plans to run again next year.

Jane Giasson won a full, two-year term as town clerk/treasurer by beating challenger Marcia Chaisson, with a vote of 876-515.

Giasson was elected last year to fill out the final year of former Town Clerk Mary Ann Prue’s position. She had served 16 years as deputy town clerk before winning the seat as town clerk.

Chaisson had served as an assistant town clerk, and had substituted in several positions in the town office. She was making a first try for elective office.

Voters also approved six changes to the town’s bylaws. Several sought to bring the town into compliance with subdivision, mobile home park and building code regulations.

One will boost the amount of the fine for taxi cab companies that do not register with the town in a timely manner from $25 per day to $100 per day. Another provides more protections and restrictions on domestic pets.
