MEXICO – Newcomer Richard Philbrick will join incumbents Monique Aniel and Reggie Arsenault on the Board of Selectmen.
Philbrick, making a first run for elective office, took 223 votes to Wes Raynor’s 189 and Edward Fontaine III’s 108. They were seeking to serve the two years remaining of Louise Waterhouse’s term.
Aniel and Arsenault easily defeated two challengers to keep their seats on the board. Aniel received 317 votes, Arsenault got 307, Marjorie Richard got 211, and Donald Hodsdon, 98.
Philbrick, 33, is a public works employee for the town of Rumford. He is a Boy Scout leader and is active in the local Elks lodge.
He will join the board at Wednesday’s selectmen’s meeting.
For Mexico’s representatives to the SAD 43 school board, incumbents Betty Barrett and Peter Zanoni received 407 and 450 votes, respectively, to keep their seats. No one ran for the two other SAD 43 school board seats assigned to the town.
Town Clerk Penny Duguay said many write-ins were cast for the vacant SAD 43 board seats. Whether the town will have new members won’t be known until at least tomorrow. Duguay must call each write-in winner to find out if they will accept the position.
