FARMINGTON – John A. Storer, 87, a longtime resident of Avon, died Wednesday evening, June 9, in Farmington.

Born in Avon, Nov. 26, 1916, a son of the late Arthur W. and Ada F. (Wing) Storer, he was a graduate of Phillips High School, Class of 1937, and attended trade school in Los Angeles, Calif.

In 1940, he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He saw duty in Germany, Japan and Korea and was honorably discharged at the rank of lieutenant colonel. On Dec. 22, 1945, he married the late Anita Rose Haggan in Strong.

Mr. Storer was former town manager for the town of Avon and served as selectman and road commissioner. He was a 50-year member of Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 67 AF & AM in Phillips and a life member of the American Legion. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida, and will be remembered as an avid fisherman.

Survivors include a son, Arthur Storer and his companion, Barbara Norton of Avon; a daughter, Joyce Giguere and her husband, John of Wilton; a stepson, Carroll Haggan and his wife, Jean of London, England; a longtime companion, Marion G. Smith of Farmington; eight grandchildren, Lance Storer, Chelle Cox, Eugene Caton, Dane Caton, John Caton, Ricky Haggan, Chris Haggan and Zoe Haggan; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of more than 31 years, who died in 1985; and two sisters, Ida Traub and Lucielle Witham.
