PORTLAND – Richard A. Lagasse, 74, a resident of Elm Street, Lewiston, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 13, at Maine Medical Center following an automobile accident in Auburn.

He was born in Madison, on June 23, 1929, the son of Armand J. and Evelyn Mae (Lambert) Lagasse Sr. He attended school in the Madison school system. He served in the National Guard. He worked as a carpenter in the surrounding area until his retirement.

He married Harriette Ellis Munson at the Salvation Army in Lewiston, on March 19, 1988. Harriette passed away Sept. 24, 2001.

He is survived by three stepchildren, Richard Munson and his wife Carol of Sherman Mills, Thelma Faulkner and her husband Cliff of Lee, and Judy Smith and her husband Charlie of Lincoln; six stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; four brothers, Linwood Lagasse and his wife Shirley of Mercer, Armand “Duffy” J. Lagasse Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Madison, Donald Lagasse and his wife Claudette of Killingworth, Conn., and Eugene Lagasse and his wife Pat of Solon; seven sisters, Audrey Wentworth and her husband Royal of Bolton, Conn., Corinne Thurston and her husband Howard of Madison, Conn., Barbara West of Skowhegan, Pauline Runnells and her husband Ray of Canaan, Janet Cassidy and her husband Roland of Bingham, Judy Ellis and her husband Larry of Skowhegan and Brenda Maldon and her husband Gary also of Skowhegan; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Harriette; his sister, Christine Lagasse; and a nephew, Bryan Thurston.
