FARMINGTON – Farmington selectmen expressed their appreciation to Franklin Community Health Network at the selectmen’s meeting when they were told of the network’s voluntary donation of $20,000 Tuesday.

Town Manager Richard Davis made the announcement and offered a draft of a thank-you letter that was readily signed by the five board members.

The act of generosity was recognized as exceptional by the board, given that the organization’s fiscal situation is not terribly favorable. According to the accompanying letter, the network said that though they are still struggling somewhat, their situation has improved lately and felt that they wanted to contribute back to their host community. Franklin Community Health Network is the umbrella organization that includes Franklin Memorial Hospital, Healthy Community Coalition and other area health-related entities.

Selectman Charles Murray is on the network’s board of trustees and was pleased with the contribution though he recused himself from voting for it due to the obvious conflict of interest.

Board members were thankful for the contribution and said they were glad the network is willing to support the community “in good times and in leaner ones.”
