PHILLIPS – Ronald J. Toothaker, “Popeye,” 54, of Phillips died Wednesday morning, June 23, at his home on Ross Avenue surrounded by his family.

He was born May 16, 1950, in Farmington the son of John and Elvie (Dunham) Toothaker. He was educated in the schools of Phillips and graduated from Mt. Abram High in the class of 1970, he then entered the United States Air Force.

He married Glenda Ellis in Rangeley in September of 1971. He worked as a mechanic at Forster Mfg. for almost 30 years, retiring due to ill health in 2003.

He was a member of the Country Classic Car Club and enjoyed working on cars, collecting hats and Popeye memorabilia, he also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, and spending time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years; two daughters, Patti Toothaker and companion Basil Chadbourne of Strong, and Eva Boyd and husband Mathew of Strong; one son, Daniel Toothaker and Misty Bailey of Bingham; four grandchildren, Meika, Kirsten, Kacie and Dylan; three sisters, June Searles, Cheryl Bacheldar and Wandalyn Thompson; six brothers, Earl, Lealand, Kendall, John Jr., Bruce, and Jeffery Toothaker; a special friend, Dazy; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother; father; and brother, Robert.
