WEST PARIS – Town Manager Don Woodbury told selectmen Thursday he is monitoring the amount of daily business activity at the town office to assess operations.
“I am trying to get a handle on the volume of activity in the office each day and am finding some interesting numbers. The study is not a complete count because it does not include people who walk in to look at tax maps and other general business items. It does, however, cover major business issues that come up,” he said.
“The volume of business varies from day to day, but 20-plus (people) is what I am finding as an average so far,” Woodbury said. “I will be continuing to do this on a regular basis to see how this average holds up over a longer period of time.”
In other business, selectmen decided they would not pay a $10,500 bill from Joseph Grubb for repairs he has done on an abandoned portion of Gates Hill Road.
“I don’t think we need to take any action,” Chairman Wade Rainey said. “We already made the decision earlier this spring and deemed the road abandoned.”
The board consulted with road commissioners and learned that no town maintenance has been done on the road in at least 30 years. And because of that, Maine Municipal Association attorneys agreed the road is legally abandoned.
Selectmen Jim Johnston and Bill Birney agreed no action on the request for payment was needed.
Woodbury announced that parents with children interested in swimming lessons need to register by the week of July 22 at the town office. The lessons will be held at Hilltop Pools at 36 North Paris Road. The schedule is weekday afternoons the weeks of July 26 and Aug. 2.
