Maine State Police plan to use their airplanes, unmarked cruisers and additional troopers in traffic enforcement efforts for the July 4 weekend.

Troopers will target high crash and violation areas as part of the department’s SAFE program – Strategic Area Focused Enforcement, said Col. Craig A. Poulin, the Chief of Maine State Police.

Poulin said additional troopers will concentrate in locations along the turnpike, interstate and several secondary roads that have been identified as problem areas.

The chief said the July 4 holiday and week are traditionally busy times on Maine roads because of vacationers.
