DIXFIELD – A Texas woman was injured after she apparently blacked out while driving her car, which plunged down an embankment and stopped 10 feet from the Androscoggin River.

Brona Kelly, 28, was driving her red Oldsmobile sedan west on Route 2 about 4 p.m. when she blacked out, crossed the median, and went through the guardrail. Trees stopped the car before it reached the river.

Kelly suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to Rumford Hospital. Passenger Ashley Brown, 15, and Kelly’s 14-month-old baby were uninjured. The adults were wearing seat belts and the baby was in a car seat.

Sgt. Bobby Gallant of Mexico said Kelly was drinking a beer at the time of the accident. No charges have yet been filed in the incident.
