WILTON – The Wilton CareerCenter will offer the following free workshops in July:

•Applications/Work History/Resumes, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9.

• Interviewing Skills, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 9.

• Test of Adult Basic Education, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 21.

• General Aptitude Test Battery, 9 a.m. to noon July 16.

• Career Decision Making, 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 20.

• Essentials of College Planning, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8.

• Job Club from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. This workshop provides a group format to support and assist the job seeker with strategies, leads, job preparation and possibilities.

Strawberry fest

RANGELEY – Oquossoc’s Town Park will once again be the site of the Rangeley region guides’ and sportsmen’s annual Strawberry Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 8. More than 400 shortcakes will be prepared with freshly picked local berries and topped with fresh whipped cream. Bob Daviau will again cook up his sausage-and-pepper sandwiches and the Girl Scouts will help with beverages. A bake sale table will return with cakes, cookies and pies. Throughout the park, 60 vendors from across the region are expected to set up their wares. The area’s largest yard sale will be held on the roadway between the firehouse and the park, which will be closed to traffic. The Little Miss Strawberry contest will be held throughout the day, and people will have the opportunity to cast a vote from the photos on display. Profits will help the many programs on this year’s agenda of the Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association.

Military honor roll

INDUSTRY – The town of Industry is collecting names to place on a military honor roll, which will include any town resident who served in the military from the Civil War to present. Anyone who knows friends, family, or anyone else who served is asked to call Sayward Hackett at 778-3123 or send e-mail to saygrh@exploremaine.com.

STRONG – The Strong Water District, as required by the federal Safe Drinking Water Act of 1996, has released its sixth annual consumer confidence report. People who have concerns about the safety of the district’s water may call the Safe Drinking Water hot line at 1-800-426-4791. Any customer of the Strong Water District who has not received a copy of the report or who would like extra copies may call Betty Whittemore at 684-3875 and leave a message. The report is also posted on Maine Rural Water Association’s Web site.

Food, craft sale

JAY – The North Jay United Methodist Women will sponsor a food and craft sale from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Parish House. Along with the food table, there will also be doughnuts and coffee for sale as well as food for lunch. The church’s thrift shop will be open, as it is every Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Fiddler on a Moose’

WELD – American Legion Auxiliary Post 203 will present “Fiddler on a Moose” at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Mount Blue State Park campground. Marty Hamlin, a fiddler from Stoneham, will perform the one-man show. He will play his fiddle, sing songs and tell stories with a gentle humor atop his one-ton moose carved from spruce and pine. The program is free. Donations to the American Legion Auxiliary will be appreciated.

EAST WILTON – SonHarvest County Fair is the theme for a vacation Bible school to be held July 11 through July 16 at the Union Church. Children participating in the school will discover how to grow the fruits of the spirit, love, joy, peace, patience and kindness. There will be lively songs, crafts, games, Bible stories and snacks. Classes for children begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 11. Parents are being invited to join them at 6 p.m. Friday, July 16, for a barbecue and musical presentation. More information may be obtained by calling the church at 645-4297. All are welcome to join them for this Bible school.

Free health fair

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s Eat Well Program is inviting area children to a free “Teddy and Me” health fair. Designed for youngsters kids age 10 and under, it will be held 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 14, at Trinity United Methodist Church on the Farmington Falls Road. Children are welcome to bring their favorite stuffed friend or doll. There will be costumed characters, games, healthy snacks, craft, a tea party, and a reading and rest area. Space is limited. People are asked to call 778-4650 to sign up.

GOP meeting

WILTON – The Franklin County Republican Committee met recently to make plans for the summer months. Russ Black, the county chairman, led the meeting. Seven towns were represented at the meeting. The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the Wilton Town Office. The August meeting will be a potluck cookout at 5 p.m. Aug. 22 at the home of Roger Lambert in Strong. Plans for the Farmington Fair will be discussed at the meetings, and jobs will be assigned. Fund-raising will be a priority. All town chairmen are welcome to attend the meetings.
