NEW GLOUCESTER – One of Maine’s most accomplished citizens, Hannibal Hamlin, will visit New Gloucester at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 11.
Hamlin, portrayed by historian Richard Newcomb of Hampden, will meet and greet interested people at the 1839 Universalist Meetinghouse, 1131 Intervale Road (Route 231), during a program sponsored by the New Gloucester Historical Society.
Hamlin was a Maine native who served as Abraham Lincoln’s first vice president. He also was a U.S. senator and an ambassador, as well as a lawyer, teacher and veteran.
The free program is open to the public.
